Hope school

Hope school is located on Paton Road Nelson.
Hope school is a small school with only four class rooms.
Three being the youngest and one being the oldest.
I would recommend this school to any five year olds wanting to find a school in the Aniseed or Paton area.
When you get to room 1 you get to go to camp.
My first camp in room 1 was at Lake Rotoiti.
We got to ; swim with eels, jump off the jetty,go for walks and play lots of games.
It was a good bonding activity for the whole class.

Writing

In writing, we have noticed that good authors often start their sentences with adverbs or adverbial phrases and to help paint a picture they use precise verbs. below is some of our examples.

Cautiously, I inspected the walls. I take a step and 'snap' I fall with no idea where. Zac

Although the camp leader had given us a tour as soon as we got here I was still desperately searching for the toilet.I hardly knew my around here and yet I was too embarrassed to ask the leader for directions. To make  this scene even worse it's pitch black a outside. Who knows what creatures are lurking there?  Holly

As I scanned the freezing cold field all I could see was pitch darkness. With not much visibility I tripped on a log and landed face first and out came some words I shouldn't mention. Ben

Whoosh! the cold wind brushed swiftly across Annabeth's face. her cuts and wounds stung but she carried on. Although she could hardly see through the mist she knew the graveyard was creepy and deserted. Lilly

"Help!" yelled Ben although it barely came out as whisper. Ben heard a groaning sound beside him, he instinctively raised his hands to his face in defence but nothing happened. Cowering next to the wall Ben was just simply frightened. Caleb

Slowly I closed my eyelids, I couldn't take anymore of it but before I could drift off to sleep I heard a wondering whisper. Cautiously I rolled over, opening my eyes would have helped. Clay

Big beasts

This term our topic is big beasts.
Our task for homework is to research on a big beast.
The beast needs to start with the first letter of your name.
for example someone that starts with H could do a hippo.
This is a Hippo

Rock da house

Rock da house is about having fun and grooving to the music and also singing!!!
Rock da house includes schools in Nelson as in Appleby, Ranzau and Hope School!!!
Tickets are available at all schools .
Everyone is welcome to join us at Nelson Boys College!
All shows start at 7:30pm.
We are excited and looking forward to that day!
This is our pukeko art we made with Mrs Beattie.
First we ripped some bits of news paper and then stuck them on the bits of paper and then dyed them.We made the pukeko by drawing the body as a circle and the same with the head.
We painted them with blue, red, white and black paint.
We think they look awesome!

LUNCH!!!

We had fun making a healthy lunch for our invited guests.
We had one rule: no added sugar to our food.
We made: pumpkin soup, butter chicken, super foods party, mexican chicken wraps, vegetable soup and waffles.
We think our guests enjoyed their food

The Air Force came to Visit

On Thursday we were lucky to have a visit from a group of people training in the Air Force. They came in their unimogs and had 6 different activities for us to do. The obstacle course was fun, the drill taught us how to march and salute, the paper pane making was about flight, looking in the bush showed us about camouflage, putting up tent flies was good fun and then we climbed into the unimogs. Although it was cold it was a great morning! Thank you to all the wonderful people training at the Air Force!

caleb and jesse time

Today we did exploration time.
We did 4 activities. We are going to be telling you about siphon water and making boats out of tin foil. The goal was to make a block of play dough float in the boat. It was hard but most of us did it . Some even got 2 in. With the siphon we had to get water down into another jar. It was very fun.

lilly's camp story

I’ve been learning to ‘show not tell’ in my writing

Flying camp

My heart thumped and pumped my knees started to knock! “Whoooo!’’ I yelled as I got hurled up. I was like an eagle in the sky . I  dared not  look down but my head got the better of me... I stared hard at the ground , thoughts rushed through my head like rush hour at a train station. “What was I doing... but look at this view....  but what was I doing..... I’m gonna fall but look at that lake!

As my wings started to lower me I felt astounded , my feet hit the gorgeous safe  ground . My heart slowed. I was so happy I nearly kissed the ground but then the anchor called “Kiwi are you ready!”  Here we go again

Welcome to 2015. We are looking forward to a year of fun learning and challenges. Our first week was off to a great start with Mrs Beattie teaching on Wednesdays. Then a bit of a disaster happened when Mrs Scott badly broke her wrist. She was off duty for a week or so but back on board in time for camp.
