Room 1 visits the museum

On Monday Room 1 visited the interesting exhibit at the museum about Roman Machines . Nikki showed us around every unique machine and taught us about how they relate to us todayNikki  showed us a lot of things that were used to break down buildings that the Romans had used like the rams.
The Romans invented the pulley system so heavy things could be pulled with less effort - the slaves liked that .
In battle, the Romans used their shields to build a barrier so they did not get injured.
After the trip we all think the Romans were awesome .

up and away

Up and away

Our class made paper planes for maths. We went outside and flew them and then measured them. We marked them on a bar graph. We had a
competition to see who could make a dart fly the furtherest. If your dart flew  more than ten metres  you went into the finals.

Paper plane plans

The past week we have been doing some scientific paper plane testing. Daniel  Campbell and me were in a team.  I brought a paper plane book to use. We decided to make a paper plane called the 'hammer'. Campbell threw it and it went 17m, then he threw it again and it went 18m and he threw it one more time and it went 19m. It said in the book that it can go 102m off a hill so if you want to win a paper dart competition use the 'hammer'.

Cameron and Lewis Testudo formation

The Romans fought in a cunning sort of way, their way was testudo  formation. The testudo formation was when a group of Roman soldiers made a little shelter using their shields like this.

You might think that they can't attack but they can. The way they attack is when they stick their spears out. So do you think you would want to mess with the Romans. Guess not.

Fly up and away, little plane

At school we have been making little paper planes. Our plane had a tail like a swallow. We  found out that putting weight on the nose helps make it go further.
Max's plane went the furthesteven though it was the smallest.

Futsal by Jack and Campbell

The last few weeks, John has come out and taught us how to play Futsal. We did some movement at the start of the lessons playing a game where you had to steal the other people's tails. Then we did some passing and played ghost busters but Angelina fell over. At the end, we played a game of Futsal and we all had a good time.

Term 2 Begins

Well, we are back and ready to get back to learning but... our classroom is still a builder's site. We were hoping this would be done during the holidays but no luck.So far, they have put in a new ceiling, done some painting, improved some of the windows and given us a new bench and hot water. They have stalled on putting in new doors and extending the deck. Hopefully this work will be done soon.
