Ms.Smith student teacher

Since the second week of school  Room 1 has had a student teacher.
Her name is Chloe but we have to call her Ms.Smith.
For the first 3 weeks before the holidays some of us went to REMIX and Ms.Smith was one of the teachers there. She has been at this school for a week and I don't see how anyone could dislike her, she's funny and nice and she reads us nice stories. To sum it all up I think I will enjoy her stay at Hope school and I hope she does too.

Academic Quiz

On the 17th of September our reading group went to the academic quiz it was at Henley hall. The academic quiz is a challenge to test our knowledge in a wide range of hard subjects like music, maths, social science, and literature. We studied long and hard on the subjects but it was difficult because the subjects were very wide.We spent two weeks researching the subjects and then Mrs. Scott gave us a big sheet of paper and we had to write down all the facts we knew.....but when it came to the real thing we still couldn't remember everything. However, we had a great time.

Alex

 Alex
 by James

Two days ago Alex was plunged into darkness when his ship was obliterated. He had never been exceptionally intelligent but he was smart enough to know when he was beat. Two days ago he had to dash to the newly installed multi-directional escape pod. When he had been in orbit for several cruel days in the escape pod it malfunctioned and he was in for a devastating crash. His pod came down onto a new planet it had lots of luscious blues and some magnificent greens. Then suddenly he blacked out, his last visions being bits of metal exploding in all directions.

Alex woke up.He was clueless to where he was or why.How long had he been here? “Hello?” his voice echoed. He seemed to be in some sort of cave.As his eyes adjusted he started to observe his surroundings when suddenly his memory started to come back.I have to get back home!He thought as his mind paced. He scavenged for something, anything when his hand grabbed something.

“A torch!” Alex exclaimed as he flicked the switch. He peered around. He was actually in some sort of entranceway made of steel and alloy.Suddenly a figure emerged from the darkness armed with a military grade rifle.”Intruder!” The figure shouted and his gun exploded into a mass of bullets.Alex quickly dashed to cover, with a stream of bullets beside him, he was trapped. He had to get out!Alex was terrified he just could not get his head together. Then in an instant it was gone be he had saw it.A do-”Intruder alert!Intruder alert!” There was a deafening siren. Now he had to get out.Now.

Alex took a daring chance when he rolled under the heavy stream of bullets but it paid of because when he collided with the door he was in luck. The door flung open and just as they were homing in there it was Utility’s room.

Alex quickly slammed the door behind him. Then he glanced up, there was a vent!Just as he suspected. He peered around. There was a cluster of boxes hiding a metal object. He quickly chucked them away and it revealed, a ladder! He dashed for it and it came crashing down.He had to manoeuvre himself in a position where he could pull it, but that was easy.Alex hauled the ladder up and the last thing he saw was the door bursting open with a stream of bullets following, as he escaped into the safety of the vent.

!EGGS!

For the last week we have been looking after non boiled eggs. Jame's B went through 6 eggs to complete the homework task. Sophia kept her egg safe all week. It was quite a challenge keeping your egg in one piece. Every egg had a container. Most eggs got sheep's wool in the bottom of their container to keep them more protected. James  liked the bit at the end when we smash our egg. Some people, including Sophia  kept their eggs.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

For the last two weeks we have been doing Keeping Ourselves Safe.Constable Garland came in to talk to us.
We learnt about abuse, chatting on the internet and we watched a movie called Mark makes a good call and we talked about that. This is some of the abuses: cyber abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, neglect and family violence.
It is important to be confident and know where you can go for help if it is needed.  Lily

What a day... Friday the 30th of May was our student teacher's last day  and we had lots of fun. At home time we played a game called handball. It came up to me so Mr Lightfoot lost the round but the funny part was as he reached for the ball he split his pants and had to beat a hasty retreat home for new pants!!!

camp kayaking

Kayaking at camp was great fun! It was very cold and it was like a blizzard under water. We floated down the rapids in the little kayaks. Everyone kept getting stuck and falling out. Mrs  Scott was pushed in and then Sally jumped in.          Hunter & Lilly.

These are some people on
the kayaks. The people are stuck

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

On Tuesday the 4th of March 2014 we went to Wakefield Pool to participate and compete in our class swimming sports. It was great to have a go at swimming 25m in deep water and some of us raced so a team could be selected to compete in the Waimea Cluster Sports. We ended the session with some fun events judged by the parents. Cameron won the biggest splash competition, Lilly Z the the no splash dive, and Abe for the most creative way of entering the pool. - He was a walking along and got shot and fell in!
After camp week on the 19 March a team of 12  swimmers competed in the Cluster sports. They did really well especially as they were competing against a lot of swimming club swimmers.
Eli - 4th in the 50 m Freestyle, Rani - 3rd in breaststroke, Lilly Z - 1st in backstroke, Hamish -1st in Freestyle and Histen - 3rd in Freestyle and 1st in Breaststroke.

Hunter's Birthday Present

Hunter and Rio the cockatiel

Hunter got a cocktiel for his birthday and brought it to school for the day. Most of the time it was quiet. we all enjoyed it sitting on our shoulders and we were surprised how light it was. We think it will make a great pet.
